New summer schedule announced with additional open water swimming opportunities
Masters Swimming MNTriMasters is a triathlon focused masters swim group that meets at the St. Louis Park high school pool in the fall and winter. In the spring Dave Cameron conducts his training at the Richfield 50 meter outdoor pool. They are once again swimming three nights a week at Richfield. Practices will remain $8 per time, but punchcards for those practices are now available at $52 for ten practices (although they go up to $65 on June 1). Take advantage of the early-bird special and sign up at a 10% discount for your first (or more than that) punchcard by clicking here Open Water Swimming New this year, we have three locations to have open water swim workouts. As the water is still pretty cold, we have not yet determined days and times to conduct these workouts, but as soon as we do, they will be posted here. We will have workouts in the following locations: Lac Lavon - Burnsville/Apple Valley - Click here for directions We usually meet in the parking lot, then walk up to the pick nick bench at the top of the hill to change. From there, there is a trail we follow down to the beach. We do this instead of getting in at the main beach by the parking lot because there are less weeds there. Typically, we'll swim around the lake keeping the shore-line on our tight side. Lake Nakomis - South Minneapolis - Click here for directions We meet in the parking lot and then proceed to the beach. Since this is a Minneapolis city park, open water swimming is not allowed. What we do is notify the lifeguards and swim just outside the marker buoys and follow the perimeter. It may not be ideal, but it's more central that the other lakes. Lake Ann - Chanhassen - Click here for directions Follow the park road all the way to the parking lot near the lake and the concession stand. We'll find a picknick table by the lake to set our gear and get dressed. Before we get in the water we have been asked to notify the lifeguards on duty that we are about to do an open water swim. We have also been asked to enter the lake from either the fishing pier/paddle boat dock to the right of the beach or to the right edge of the beach to stay out of the way of the other swimmers. Once you're in the wate, look across the lake for the beach on the far side. We will swim to the far beach, hang out a moment to wait for stragglers and catch our breath, then turn around and swim back. One thing that we stress in ALL of our open water swims is that under no circumstances is anyone to EVER swim alone! NEVER! Outdoor Rides In addition to our monthly Century Rides, we are also teaming up with our new bike shop sponsors to join in on their weekly bike rides. We will also have some hosted brick workouts with bar-b-ques over the course of the summer. If you would like to host a ride, we greatly encourage you to do so. All you need to do is send a message out to the Yahoo Group telling people what you're thinking and where you're going to be riding from. As an added plus, in this day and age ruled by litigation, if you host a race and announce it as an official MNTriClub ride, you'll automatically be covered by the club's USAT insurance. Stay tuned for details on all the sponsor sponsored rides.
